Design Process
Racal Acoustics has been designing, developing, qualifying
and manufacturing communication ancillary products since
1910.
Over that time we have developed our design
processes to ensure the products we manufacture deliver the
capability advantage, performance and feature sets our customers
demand.
Resources
Racal's design and development engineers
specialise in a number of fields:
- acoustics
- electro-acoustics
- electrical and electronic
- mechanical
- design providing
- environmental and qualification
certification
- production engineering
Where necessary, to gain access to and
advantage from specific technological developments, Racal has
developed partnerships with external providers.
Understanding Your Needs
Understanding exactly what products our
customers need, why they need them and how they plan to use
them in the field, is a fundamental part of product conception
and development.
Our relationships with end-customers
facilitate constant feedback on product performance; information
that is used by our design and development teams to improve current
products and bring positive enhancements to products still in the
design phase.
Additionally, business development and product
management teams are constantly refining product development
roadmaps and strategies. This ensures
that our future communications ancillaries keep pace
with quickly evolving communication technologies and
end-users’ operational scenarios.
Development
Racal employs a stage-gated design process
that ensures we develop our products in line with designated
quality and development procedures.
A dominant focus of our cross-functional
and multi-disciplined teams is knowledge of how and where our
products will be used. This factor influences every aspect of
product design; material selection, acoustic performance,
even the size and the location control switches to ensure easy and
convenient use in all operational and environmental conditions.
Core Skills
Racal Acoustics is a specialist defence
communications product company. At the centre of our success is our
detailed knowledge of the military environment and the design
criteria needed to ensure the high performance, reliability and
durability of each an every product we make.
The compatibility of our products with
existing and future individual soldier protective equipment, such
as ballistic helmets and eyewear, is just one of
Racal's core competencies. Another key skill is in
ensuring the electro-magnetic immunity and compatibility
(EMI and EMC) of our products with the array of communications
equipment available.
Design Proving
Products developed and manufactured by Racal
Acoustics are designed to conform to the highest and most
testing military standards.
Rigorous product testing and design
validation in specialist testing laboratories, coupled with the
release of Operational Evaluation (OpEval) samples, prove designs
with the end-user before series production.
